Virginia Range Wildhorse
In Northern Nevada, in the Virginia Range, we are blessed to coexist with wild horses.
Overview:
Wildhorse Connection and LRTC are two nonprofits in Northern Nevada both operated 100% by volunteers. As a volunteer I have firsthand witnessed hard working and selfless community members, rescue, aid, divert, and protect our wild horses and our public safety by keeping them off our highways through diversionary feeding and controlling population through birth control darting.
Wildhorse Connection works with Nevada Department of Agriculture and receives calls of wild horses that are injured or in need emergency help and dispatches resources. If the horse has been abandoned by their band Wildhorse Connection will attempt to return them to their band, will cover vet bills, will monitor till the horse is well enough to adopt out and facilitate adoptions.
LRTC / LTAR is a tactical operation consisting of exceptionally trained individual who do the physical rescuing and assistance of large animals domestic and wild. They work with Wildhorse Connection in reuniting abandoned foals. They use specific techniques, equipment, and exceptional horsemen handling knowledge to help distressed large animals, mostly wild horses. Think of them as the large animal firefighters of our community.
